THEORY OF MUSIC / EAR TRAINING / SOLFEGE

Music theory, ear training, and solfege are deeply interconnected — together, they form the foundation of well-rounded musical education. While music theory helps us understand and notate the structure of music, solfege and ear training develop our ability to hear, sing, and internalise what we read on the page. These disciplines work in harmony to strengthen both the analytical and expressive sides of musicianship.

In your solfege and theory lessons, you'll develop skills across three core areas: listening, reading, and performing. We will cover:

  • Time, rhythm, and meter — helping you internalise pulse, subdivision, and groove.

  • Pitch, scales, keys, and tonalities — giving you the tools to hear and understand melody and tonality.

  • Intervals, triads, and chords — building awareness of harmonic relationships and how they function in context.

  • Sight-singing and melodic dictation — sharpening your inner hearing and vocal accuracy.

  • AMEB exam preparation — available for students seeking formal assessment and recognition.

Whether you're a vocalist, instrumentalist, or complete beginner, these lessons are designed to enhance your confidence in reading, hearing, and understanding music. By integrating solfege and theory, you will gain practical and intuitive skills that will enrich your performance and deepen your connection to the music you love.
